     The Alay Lakad was conducted last September 2, 2007 in which the JCI Philippines (Philippine Jaycees, Inc.) was the lead NGO and the Overall Chairman of the National Executive Committee among the country’s four leading NGO’s the Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions International. The Alay Lakad is a project undertaken by Alay Lakad Foundation, Inc. in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). This annual walk was conducted nationwide which aims to raise funds for the socio-economic projects for the out-of-school youth. This year’s theme is “Lakad Bayan Para Kaunlaran”.  

    Alay Lakad started in 1972 and was declared a National Activity under Presidential Proclamation No. 1267. It enjoined all NGOs, private and public agencies engaged in youth development to maximize their efforts to help create a society that aims to attain the full economic and social well-being of the country’s underprivileged youth. It has become an annual tradition that highlights the plight of one of society’s neglected sector and the effective partnership between the public and private sectors in promoting the welfare of the youth. 

     This year the JCI Philippines being the lead NGO with Alay Lakad Foundation Executive Committee decided to initiate “Alay Mo Kinabukasan Ko”, a nationwide Coin Bank Project led jointly by JCI Cavite City Magiting Pres. Kharla Luneta and Rotary Club Manila Taft Pres. Vic Acebedo, the said fund drive is for the benefit of 50,000 plus Out of School Youth (OSY) of the Alay Lakad Foundation, Inc. (ALFI) which was launched during the Alay Lakad Day accepting donations to help raised funds for said undertaking. The walk was participated from the members of the different Government Agencies led by the DSWD, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Philippine National Police (PNP), Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP), Boy Scout of the Philippines (BSP), Local Government Units (LGU), National Youth Commission (NYC), members of the Business Sector, Young Women Christian Association, YMCA, different NGOs led the JCI members from the different chapters and other accredited groups. The walk composition was divided into ten (10) Walk Groups coming from the strategic areas in Metro Manila and culminated at the Quirino Grand Stand Luneta Park where a short program was held attended by local and high ranking government officials as Guest of Honor led by Department of National Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, AFP Chief of Staff, Gen. Hermogenes Esperon, Jr , DSWD Undersecretary Celia Yangco and Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim..
